The first playing of the Mike Chapman Memorial Shield was held on Saturday 18 July. For those who don’t know, Mike was the former land owner of Morley Carr Farm and officially opened Yarm Bowling Club in September 2024. Eighteen members took part in the competition in which everyone played two games. Three players finished on 4 points. The two finalists were the players with best shot difference, namely John Shanks and Shirley Heron.
John Shanks won the final 7-2, but the score doesn’t reflect how close the final was. The Shield was presented by Helen Tasker, Mike Chapman’s daughter. Helen said she found it quite an emotional day and that her father would have been very proud today.
